Meet The Board

Dr. Jamie DVM, CVA, CVFT, CVTP
President/Veterinarian

Jamie is a lifelong animal lover, healer, alchemist, and dreamer. Jamie graduated from Ross University in 2018 and pursued her clinical training at the Royal Vet College in London, UK. After graduation she pursued an internship in Emergency/General Practice/and Soft Tissue Surgery at the Animal Medical Hospital in Charlotte, NC. After working several years in emergency and general practice medicine, she pursued additional training in TCVM (Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine) at the Chi Institute, and even got to study acupuncture in Bejing. She now owns and manages a small holistic vet practice with a focus on acupuncture, Chinese herbal medications, natural nutrition, and hospice/end of life care. Jamie is excited to bring her worldwide experience and compassionate care to displaced dogs who fall through the cracks of traditional systems. Aside from animal care, she enjoys hiking, biking, yoga, cooking and travel.

Susan Novelli
Secretary

Susan Novelli, a lifelong dog lover, relocated to the Pacific Northwest after retirement. Drawn to the beauty of the water and the two mountain ranges framing the area, Susan moved to Port Townsend in 2022 with her husband, Steven, and their two 15-year-old mixed-breed shelter dogs, JoJo and Tater. After her first year of law school at the University of Colorado, she met Steven under what could only be described as a classic “meet cute,” and they have been inseparable ever since. Susan brings over 40 years of experience in law, government, and business management to The Gray Muzzle Project. She’s worked in a number of diverse environments, from the aerospace sector with NASA to business manager for The Harlem Ambassadors, an international touring show-basketball team. Now enjoying retirement, Susan spends her
time with Steven and their dogs, tackling word puzzles, reading, hiking, biking, traveling, watching movies, and engaging in any activity that helps her resist indulging her political- junkie habit.

Ken Rogers
Vice President & Treasurer

Ken and his spouse Melissa moved to the area from Steamboat Springs, where Ken had been managing a rural healthcare center, and Melissa, was working as a registered nurse. Before that, Ken worked as a paramedic and taught at a community college. Volunteering has always been important part of their lives. Ken has been on several medical missions to Haiti after the earthquake and cholera outbreak, worked as a paramedic and first responder with the local fire department and volunteered with the Red Cross during local emergencies. Ken has also served on the board of directors of several non-profit organizations including Heeling Friends Therapy Dogs, Colorado Comfort Canines, Emergency Services Association of Colorado and Yampa Valley Electric Co-Op. Melissa and Ken have a big soft spot for animals, especially those with special needs. Over the years, they have adopted several two and three-legged dogs and cats. Some of them have even become certified therapy dogs, bringing comfort to people in hospitals and senior care facilities. They also started a nonprofit that sends therapy dog teams to communities dealing with tragedies such as shootings or wildfires. Ken’s background in business started early, working at his family’s shoe store as a teenager. Later, he managed and then owned a successful retail business in Boulder, CO. These days, Ken runs a small business that handles timing and scoring for running, cycling, and Nordic ski races.

In addition to serving on the Board, Jane enjoys hiking - taking her four-legged hiking buddy Leo whenever possible, traveling with her husband, gardening, cuddling with her kitties, camping and enjoying the great outdoors.

Kendra Madison
Board Member

Kendra is a licensed veterinary technician with over 15 years of experience in the veterinary industry. She found her first calling in HQHVSN (high-quality,

high-volume spay/neuter) and community medicine in 2014, and then spent nearly four years managing clinical care for Pasado’s Safe Haven. In 2019, she found a new love in emergency and critical care and has spent most of her professional time in ECC spaces since then.

Her animal family includes Franny, an 8y/o deaf mixed breed terrier; and Nugget and Lilo, 12y/o orange tabbies. While she has proudly never foster failed, many of Kendra’s friends and colleagues have an animal that once lived in her bathroom.

In the summer of 2024, Kendra hung up her foster hat to welcome Silas, the most perfect human baby. In her spare time, Kendra enjoys practicing yoga, hiking, laughing, and writing lists.

Judy Krebs
Board Member

Judy Krebs is a long time animal rights advocate and champion of animal rescue organizations and campaigns.  As an attorney practicing labor and employment law and a community organizer since she could talk, Judy brings a unique awareness of how the fight for justice is one that is shared by humans, animals, and the environment.  She lives with her rescue dog crew: Kallie (Schipperke mix, 15 years old from Seattle Humane), Clancy (Chihuahua mix, 8 years old from All Mutts Big and Small) and June (Chihuahua mix 9 years old from Old Dog Haven facilitated re-adoption) in Port Townsend.  In between long walks with her pups (they determine the route!)
