Meet The Resident Dogs
We provide intentional detailed hospice care for a small number of senior dogs, specializing in those with terminal diagnoses or other special medical needs. Resident dogs are not for adoption, they live here with us and benefit from compassionate, individualized holistic and traditional medical treatment with a priority on safety and comfort for the time they have left.

Dulce

Dulce lives up to her name and is pure love. Despite a hard life, she trusts easily, goes with the flow, and falls in love with every single person and dog she encounters. She'll be certain you don't forget it with periodic sweet kisses.

Rescue Date: July 17, 2025

Age: ~9

Likes: Belly rubs, tasty snacks, soaking up the sunshine, snoring while snoozing on her big bed, and discovering new sniffs.

Dislikes: Gross broccoli, stairs, being confined, feeling alone- she's a social butterfly.
Dulce's Story: Dulce was found roaming the streets of LA county and brought to the shelter. Sadly no one came for her and no one wanted to adopt her (we don't understand it!). We suspect she was used for breeding and no longer wanted. After awhile in the shelter she was rescued by a Washington based group and in foster for several months before she came to The Gray muzzle sanctuary to spend the rest of her days. Some of Dulce's challenges include multiple different types of cancerous growths and struggles a bit with allergies, arthritis, and obesity. She's also deaf. At ~9 years young her chances of adoption were slim, especially given the unpredictable nature of cancer. GMP agrees to provide palliative (hospice) medical care and give her a safe place to spend the rest of her days surrounded by love.

Noodles

Noodles is a 12-13 year old Shih Tzu mix rescued from the Orcas Animal Shelter after his lifetime caregiver was unable to take care of him and his brother Frankie. Noodles and Frankie were staff/volunteer favorites at the shelter, but unfortunately no one was able to step up to adopt not just one but both of them, and its very important they remain together.

Rescue Date: August 7, 2025

Age: 12-13

Likes: Being the center of attention, belly rubs, giving sweet kisses, treats!

Dislikes: Fruit, and nothing else! He's almost always a happy guy

He Believes: He believes he is the biggest boy there ever was in the world.

Frankie

Frankie is a 15 year old Pekignese. He was also at the Orcas Animal Shelter with his brother where he stayed for about 4 months waiting for the right family. Unfortunately, no one came. He struggles with some respiratory issues and moves a little slow in his old age, but is happy and otherwise quite healthy.

Rescue Date: August 7, 2025

Age: 15

Likes: Being a regal gentleman, afternoon naps (with snoring!), watching his younger friends while perched atop an orthopedic bed, sniffing around the property.

Dislikes: Any vegetable (he would rather starve!), and some new people. He takes a bit of time to warm up but once he does he's very loyal and sweet.

He Believes: Naps should remain uninterrupted under all circumstances.

Darlin

Darlin is a 12+ year old Labrador with puppy energy inside a failing body. She was found on Hwy 101, where we suspect she was dumped. She was then taken in by Center Valley Animal Rescue where it was clear she would be difficult to adopt into a home, but it wasn't her time to go yet. She was transferred to the Gray Muzzle Project sanctuary to live out her days and regain trust in humans again.

She struggles with severe arthritis of both knees and her spine, and some urinary leakage issues which have now been resolved as she gets stronger and more mobile. It's unclear how much time Darlin will have in this world but we promise to make her last days as peaceful and comfortable as possible.
Rescue Date: August 15, 2025

Age: 12+

Likes: Playing with toys, being pet (constantly!), any and all food, chewing on bones, her acupuncture/massage- she lays peacefully on the floor while the needles are placed.

Dislikes: We believe she wishes she could do more physically.

She Believes: Meal time is the best part of the day.

Amos

Amos was neglected by his previous owner and suffered from severe skin infections, flea infestation, worms, and ear infections. He was malnourished and had untreated joint pain. People for Animal Cares and Kindness (PACK) took him in and nursed him to health- though found elevated liver enzymes and a mass near his heart during their testing. He has mild ongoing joint pain and persistent liver changes-though it doesn't affect his quality of life. Amos was brought the The Gray Muzzle Project Sanctuary for ongoing hospice care, support, and love for the rest of his days.

Rescue Date: October 17, 2025

Age: 11

Likes: Sleeping in, making perfect nests, meal time, short romps on his long legs, watching his friends from the highest point on the property, snuggles from his favorite humans.

Dislikes: Mornings, changes in routine.
