The Gray Muzzle Project (GMP) is a grass roots, volunteer run 501(c)3 non-profit senior dog micro sanctuary based in Chimacum, WA.
In 2025, The Gray Muzzle Project launched its first program: The Forever Home. This program identifies senior dogs struggling with chronic medical conditions who are poor candidates for private adoption. In collaboration with local and regional animal rescue organizations, our team carefully evaluates patients and transports our furry friends to the Gray Muzzle Project Sanctuary where they will spend the rest of their lives in comfort and peace. Through a carefully designed Hospice Medical Program, designed by Founder + Program Veterinarian Dr. Jamie Walkush, each resident dog will receive integrative hospice veterinary care with a focus on pain management and quality of life. Each sanctuary resident’s unique physical, mental, and emotional needs will be met through individualized daily care plans.

Community Collaboration- The Gray Muzzle Project values maintaining mutually beneficial relationships with local and regional animal rescue organizations by serving as a transfer option for senior dogs either not thriving in a shelter environment or that are difficult to adopt/foster. The Gray muzzle project aims to support local farmers and small businesses by choosing locally sourced food and supplies.

How Many Open Positions? 2 General Board Members
Purpose: Seeking Board Member for GMP specializing in a variety of skill sets including, but not limited to: fundraising (donor relations + sponsorship programming, grant research and grantwriting), community outreach, program development, administrative and technical support, and logistics.
Position Summary: As part of the Board of Directors, members will support the growth and development of GMP, assist the Director with policies and organization protocol, and a ‘working Board’ to help achieve deliverables.
Skill Set: Individuals who possess a deep appreciation for animal welfare, nonprofit mission, and community engagement are encouraged to apply. We are looking for local team members with diverse backgrounds who can bring strong collaboration and communication to our team. Applicants with prior experience in fundraising, strategic planning, or program development are preferred.
What’s Expected:
Prepare for and actively participate in monthly meetings
Follow board bylaws and policies
Serve as active ambassadors in the community
Maintain confidentiality about internal matters
Key Activities:
Oversee financial management to ensure strong fiduciary oversight
Support fundraising and resource development efforts
Help develop and monitor active community programs
Ensure the organization stays mission centered
Commitment: Board positions are one year commitments with no term limits. Board Members are not paid and dedicate their time, skills, and expertise to support The Gray Muzzle Project. Board members will be encouraged to have open dialogue with the Director to ensure mutually beneficial relationships and opportunities to grow within the organization in other capacities. Board members are required to dedicate one to two hours per month to recurring BoD meetings, and commit as needed to the organization’s capacity building. Time commitments will be re-evaluated with the growth of the organization.
No financial commitment is required.
Location: Board meetings are held virtually. Board members are encouraged to support local events and meetings throughout the Olympic Peninsula. This role will be based in the community, working directly with businesses, volunteers, and community partners. Communication via email, in person, and phone will be required.
